International News: Tensions between Iran and Israel have reached a boiling point following Israel's launch of "Operation Rising Lion" on Friday. As part of the operation, Israel launched heavy strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, missile bases, and military infrastructure. In retaliation, Iran responded with a barrage of ballistic missiles and drones targeting key Israeli regions. Amid the escalating conflict, former U.S. President Donald Trump made a surprising statement, claiming that a peace agreement between Iran and Israel is "coming soon." Trump said that his diplomatic efforts had already begun, and that "calls and meetings" were taking place behind the scenes.
On his social media platform ‘Truth Social’, Trump wrote: "Iran and Israel should compromise, and they will—just like I got India and Pakistan to the table. I used America’s trade leverage to convince both leaders to negotiate and avoid war." He also cited his first-term interventions in long-standing conflicts such as Serbia-Kosovo and Egypt-Ethiopia as examples of his peacemaking record.
One of the deadliest attacks occurred in Tehran, where an Israeli missile hit a residential high-rise, killing at least 60 people, including 29 children, according to Iranian authorities. In a separate Iranian strike, four civilians were killed when a missile hit an apartment building in Israel’s Galilee region.
Israel also targeted the world’s largest natural gas processing facility near the Persian Gulf in Iran’s Bushehr Province. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared, “Iran’s nuclear program is in the 90th minute. More strikes are coming.”
In a massive counter-offensive, Iran launched around 200 ballistic missiles and drones at Israel in four separate waves. Israel, however, claimed that most of these attacks were intercepted, thanks in part to U.S. defense systems. Global organizations have expressed deep concern, warning that the conflict could spiral into a broader regional war if not de-escalated soon.
During the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit on Saturday, countries like China strongly condemned Israel’s strikes on Iran. However, India refrained from endorsing the condemnation. Instead, India called for restraint and diplomacy, urging all sides to work towards peace.
Trump concluded his post with, “I do a lot, but get no credit. That’s okay—the people understand.” He reiterated his aim to “Make the Middle East Great Again” and insisted that peace would return to the region soon. Still, many geopolitical analysts view Trump’s remarks as political posturing, especially considering the current ground reality of active military confrontation.
